As a massage therapist, I don’t know how many times I’ve said, massage is not just a luxury or occasional spa experience to my clients. I don’t say this because people shouldn’t go to a spa and get a relaxing massage occasionally. I say it because it can be so much more. However, the relaxing massage that is often associated with spas is often overlooked and underappreciated. The fact is that about a third of all people who schedule a massage, even those who get massage regularly, schedule appointment with the intention of reducing their stress and relaxing during the session.
The best thing about a relaxing massage is that it really is more than just a relaxing massage. Whenever you receive a massage, you are doing much more for your body than relaxing. Massage therapy can help with pain, arthritis, anxiety, fatigue, immune system functions, digestion, weight loss, insomnia and more. The effects of receiving regular massages can have long-term effects on the body and mind.
Of course there are times when even a relaxing massage is not beneficial. This is why you should always be open and honest with your massage therapist. They are trained to know when a massage will help you and when it can cause complications to other ailments or health issues. Massage therapists definitely help you relax, but they can also help in the healing process.
