Sen. Graham: Trump Demonstrated Weakness by Not Firing Sessions

Instead of cheering for Trump's decision to force Sessions to quit, Democrats are joining the Republicans in defending him.

(Newswire.net — July 28, 2017) — US president Donald trump is under rapid fire from both the Democrats and his fellow Republicans after alleged pressure on US Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign.

There is speculation that President Trump is furious because Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation only months after he has been appointed to the US Attorney General position. Also, the ‘word’ is that if Sessions does not resign, Trump will fire him directly.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told CNN that Trump demonstrated weakness. Instead dragging Sessions on Twitter he should use his power to replace him. “He [Trump] is trying to get Sessions to quit, and I hope Sessions doesn’t quit. If the president wants to fire him, fire him!” Graham said.

“To me, weakness is when you play around the edges and you don’t use the power you have,” Sen. Graham said.

Known as the Immigration ‘Hardliner’ Sessions is one of the most loyal of Trump’s supporters. He provided legal backing on Trump’s immigration policies. Sessions was going to hurt millions who use medicinal marijuana by prosecuting legal dealers. Also, he planned to take a hard stance on whistleblowers and leakers and at same time he was refusing to rollout prosecution of news organizations for doing what they are supposed to do.

The conservative Alabama senator supported previous versions of the Violence Against Women Act, however, he voted against it when new provisions were included in 2013 that made it easier to prosecute domestic violence against Native American women.

Sessions is considered racially biased as he striving to give local police officers free rein to discriminate against African Americans. He also planned to reverse the Obama-era policy on mandatory minimum sentences and rejected scientific findings that fight the forensic evidence process which led to countless innocent people being imprisoned. The list of problematic biases and policies goes on.

Admitting publicly that the Democrats were right about Sessions is listed among problems that Trump might encounter in the future, so he forced Sessions to leave the position rather than just fire him. Also, firing Sessions might be interpreted by Congress as obstruction of justice which may be used against him in case of impeachment.
