When people consider going back to school to train for a better career, one of the most common objections they have is that they don’t have the time. In the first article in this series, we discussed how sometimes our own minds can work against us. Usually stemming out of a fear of change, our brain provides excuses to keep us from doing things that will change our lives in some way, like buying a car or changing cell phone service providers, for example.
Even though buying a car is most likely a good thing, our brain goes into defense mode, because it starts to dwell on those two destructive little words: “What if?”
What if I could’ve gotten a better deal if I waited?
What if the car turns out to be a lemon?
What if, what if, what if?
You have either said the following statements or heard someone else say them:
“I just don’t have the time to go back to school.”
“I barely have enough time to sleep, how can I go back to school?”
For some people, say those working 16 hours a day, seven days a week, with only eight hours to eat, shower, sleep, do laundry, clean their home, and spend with their families, time is definitely an obstacle.
But let’s be honest . . . How many of us have that kind of schedule?
Many schools these days offer flexible schedules, including weekend and evening classes. ASIS Massage Education offers both full-time and part-time programs and day, evening, and weekend classes to make it easier for people who want to train for a better career, earn more money, and have more freedom.
If we’re a bit more honest with ourselves, we know that we can rearrange our schedules to spare some extra hours a week—especially to make a better life for yourself.
Think about the following:
- What about your life makes it feel so full and busy?
- Can activities be shifted so you can carve out time?
- Is there an activity you can cut down on or suspend temporarily?
If we’re honest with ourselves, we know that we spend a significant part of our week unwinding—and justifiably so. But if you just took some of that time you spend watching TV or surfing the web and applied it towards bettering yourself for a few months, think about how much more freedom and flexibility you will have later as a professional massage therapist.
